The Hummingbird Stalker

 It's official.  I am a hummingbird stalker.
It was worth it- I got some good shots.  They were so funny- they kept buzzing right by me almost taunting me!
I had a lot of fun chasing them around though.  There was one little pair that liked to hang out over along the fence line so I just kinda hung out there with them.  Got a few shots.

The were working over the Salvia and the Mexican Bush Sage.  I got so many photos, and so many blurry ones....
I love this one - got him with his tongue out!
The Mexican Flame Vine was a hit as well.
Hope you enjoyed the shots of my first of many hummingbird stalkings.

  1. Love these shots! I've tried this and it takes a lot of patience. Prettier than the feeder shots I usually get.

In the "tongue out" photo it's easy to see how they get nectar from tubular flowers and the feeder.

    1. I watched the most interesting show on PBS the other night on the hummingbirds and it talked about their tongue- I had never seen it then I went out and captured a shot- I was so excited. Thanks!!

  2. Wonderful photos!! It is hard to take pictures of them since they are constantly on the move. Looks like you have a lot of good nectar plants for them to enjoy.

  3. You have done far better than I have ever managed to do Kacky! Hummers are so fast and so shy that I have rarely managed to get a decent picture. You really have to have patience and lie in wait. Any movement and they are gone. As you say, you need to be a "stalker".

  5. These are great shots of the hummingbirds. We don't have this bird here so I have to content with shooting sunbirds. Sometimes they do hover over flowers and I have some blurry shots to show.
