Blame It On the Rain!

Happy GBBD!!

Everything is busting with color!  The Butterfly Iris are in full bloom- they are so striking.  The recents rains have been incredible and you cannot deny that the plants aren't a little excited about it all.
The Ocotillo are blooming away, not everyone's favorite plant, but a favorite of mine.
The Lady Slippers are subtle yet beautiful.  I took this photo the other day, but they still look just like this (only with even more blooms) so I thought I'd include the shot.
Things are blooming everywhere you look, the Texas Sage are stunning and in full show off mode and the birds and butterflies have been having a ball.
The Copper Canyon Daisy are just such happy flowers.  I love to water them and breathe in the sweet lemon smell.
The Queen's Wreath are coming back and growing up along the fence- always been a favorite.
The Rose of Sharon are an old standby- they always remind me of Mom's house.
The Pink Turk's Cap, another old standby that keeps on going.
The Twisted Leaf Yucca are getting ready to open up.
The Beautyberry Issai is blooming, I still love the good ol' American Beautyberry, but this one I think is just a softer more elegant one.  And who doesn't love the berries??
The Red Passion Vine is blooming away- a show stopper by any measure.
I have seen a dragonfly or two as well and the Hummingbirds deserve a special mention as they are going bezerk!!
Here is one going at the Silks Dream Salvia.
Our little visitor yesterday- he brought his partner- they were hanging out around the tomato plants.  Here is a picture of both of them, though not great.
Hope everyone has a great GBBD!!
Make sure and check out May Dreams Gardens for all the other blogs celebrating GBBD today and see what is blooming all over!

  1. These rains have been fabulous! Last night's especially as it was unexpected and longer than I imagined it would be. Everything looks so happy! I'm growing the Issai this season for the first time. No blooms yet but I'll look forward to them now that I've seen yours. Happy GBBD!

    1. I know- I woke up and was like ... is it? Yes indeed. And today- they predicted a slight chance and we got some good rain at the nursery. So nice. You will love the Issai- it is so elegant looking I think.

  2. I love your bright blooms, Kacky, but the cardinal pictures are my favorite. I have a solitary male in my yard who is looking for a mate.

    1. Thanks! They were so cute- bouncing around on the chairs and I didn't see them eat any of the tomatoes but they were hanging out back there a while. They were there this afternoon as well- wonder if they have a nest nearby. I hope your male finds a partner soon.

  3. So much is blooming there! Having a lot of shade here, has slowed down my blooms. But, the rain has been WONDERFUL!
I love that Butterfly Iris. Mine has never bloomed. Again, probably not enough sun. But, I like their foliage, and the deer don't eat them.
    Happy Bloomday...

    1. I love the Butterfly Iris as well- they stand up and demand attention. Ha! Have you tried Abutilon or Ligularia? They are great for shade and you get a lot of blooms. The deer don't mess with the Ligularia at least not the ones I have planted in the front bed (where they sleep) nor have I heard differently. The Abutilon you might have to put where they can't get to it. Some say they leave it alone but I haven't put it outside in the test bed to know for sure yet. Happy Bloomday to you as well!
