You can not tell by my photos but this is one of the prettiest birds I have seen in a long time. He was hanging out by the front door in the Beautyberries. I got my camera and he jumped over to the pot with the Birds of Paradise in it and I was able to shoot two photos through the window. I wanted to at least have one photo of him in case he bolted. I tried opening the door slooooowwwllllyyyy but he still flew away. Can anyone tell from these horrible shots what kind of bird it is? He's so pretty!!!
You've got a Painted Bunting! Wow! These are easily one of the most beautiful birds we have in Texas. They will hang around if they can find enough food sources. I don't get them here in the city, but they LOVE the countryside.

That's it!!!!! And now that I see the female I have spotted her a few times- they like the fish pond for water. Yea!!!! Thank you!!! He is so pretty! I haven't heard him singing but I walk around with my iTunes on a lot- I am going to have to shut that off and listen for him! I am so excited!
ReplyDeleteLucky sighting. I have only seen the painted bunting around our garden on two occasions. It was a real treat.
ReplyDeleteHe's so pretty- I have seen him a few times though not in the last two days. I thought I captured his mate but after looking at her compared to the photos, I don't think it is after all. Either way she was pretty so I posted her. Hope to get better photos of him.
