Hummmmmmmm

Finally! I captured the hummingbirds.  There are 5 that are constantly buzzing around the nursery and I have yet to be able to get a good picture.  Until now.  I have had so much fun out there with them- they buzz right by me and make the most unusual little sound as if they are chirping while flying.
There is one that loves to swoop down then go sit on a branch and just observe.  They have been so much fun to watch.
They are confused I think by the Bay Laurels, as there are no blooms right now but they continue to go over there in hopes to find one.  The Black and Blue Salvia and the White Salvia leucantha seem to be the top two favorites.  Then it would be the Trumpet Vine and the Calandrinia.  A few find their way to the Hamelia but tend to stick right there in the group of four I have been calling it as I can stand right there in the middle of it all and they fly around me.  Hopefully I will have more photos to post soon!
Enjoy!

  1. Good shot! I love hummingbirds too but they are very hard to capture on film.

I have never managed to catch a hummingbird on film. Great job!! They are so darn fast.
I hate to bring up a potentially painful subject, but I have to ask: Any news of little lost Peat? I hope he is somewhere safe.

  3. Thanks- it has been a long time coming for me to get any shot. I have been waiting for a long long time hahah but I got some finally. I got a few yesterday that are really good that I am going to put up. There is one with a hummingbird almost challenging this bug that is really cool.
Peat- no. Nothing. Signs up, vets alerted, asking everyone, have a flyer at the counter in the nursery so everyone can see but nothing. All the customers that knew him say they think someone took him cause he was really such a cool little kitty. He was my little man. So sad. Every time I walk in the office I see his little box he slept in and just kills me. People say all the time the boy cats run off and come back so I am just trying to be positive. I did have a cat once that ran away and came back almost 2 months later but I don't think people have more than one story like that.... Just sad. Thanks for asking. I too hope he is somewhere safe and they are taking care of him. I also hope they bring him back.

  4. Really sweet! I love watching humming birds and I know how difficult they are to photograph.

    Hope you get back Peat.

  5. They can definitely be a challenge. I've learned to just plant myself out there (no pun intended)until the hummingbirds show up. Great shots! Expect me to visit your nursery as soon as I can!
